Natural Contraception: Free Your Body and Mind For Tantric Lovemaking

Are you a bit nervous about the idea of natural contraception? It’s only natural to be nervous. There is a lot at stake, after all!

Side note: Birth control is not just a women’s topic. Whenever we want to prevent pregnancy and STDs it always involves two people. So guys, this article is also helpful for you.

I am a big fan of being as natural as possible, especially when it comes to messing around with hormones. Studies show that hormonal birth control affects all sorts of aspects of our lives, apart from our ovaries. When I was on the anti-baby pill I had a much lower libido for instance. It can even change the type of person we find sexually attractive! It is always better to work with our bodies than against them when we can.

Natural contraception is often seen as unreliable. This perception is mainly because of the incomplete version of natural contraception now known as “Vatican roulette”. This practice was widely promoted by the Catholic church. While it worked for some, it famously failed to prevent pregnancy for many women throughout the ages.

Are You Still Playing ‘Vatican Roulette’?

The theory behind Vatican roulette is simple – we know that a woman’s cycle is around 28 days long, and she is only fertile for a few days after ovulation. Therefore, we can simply count the days from the end of her last period to know when she will be fertile We avoid having intercourse on those days, and thus avoid pregnancy.

But a woman’s body is not a machine!

So many things can affect our cycle – diet, exercise, emotional shocks, shifts in hormonal balance, multiple ovulation, and much, much more.

Effective natural contraception involves a close connection with our body, an awareness of its state, and the knowledge that science has recently discovered about how our reproductive system works.

The Science of Conception

It is completely true that a woman is only fertile for a few days after ovulation. The egg is released (ovulation) and begins to move down the Fallopian tube. This journey takes about two days. If the egg is fertilized during that time, it will develop enough to implant in the wall of the uterus before the uterine lining starts to break down.

This whole process is fascinating, and I recommend you check out some of the recommended reading to learn all about it – our bodies are truly miraculous!

If we want to prevent conception, we simply need to prevent the egg from being fertilized. Sounds simple, right?

Right.

Digging into Tantric Contraception: Sexual Continence

Now, I just have to point out that if your man has mastered his ejaculation, then he will be able to control his semen.

Once he has gone for three days without ejaculating (or even leaking a little), there will be no live sperm remaining in his system.

Studies have shown that there is live sperm in the clear pre-cum fluid. The conclusion was that any sex could lead to pregnancy, even if there is no ejaculation. However, these studies were all done on men who had recently ejaculated. If a man has not ejaculated or leaked any semen, for at least three days, there will be no live sperm in the pre-cum.

While this is obviously the best solution as far as the woman is concerned, it is a big thing for a man to master! The yogis regard complete sexual continence as a super-power, a “siddhi”.

So most of us will need to have a Plan B, while our man is mastering this super-power.

Know the Correct Moment of Ovulation: Fertility Awareness-Based Method

Pinpointing the time of ovulation is not as simple as counting days on a calendar. Some women ovulate more than once in a cycle. Women have even been known to ovulate during menstruation! But, if we don’t know exactly when ovulation happens, we don’t know exactly when to avoid intercourse.

Science has identified a number of clear indicators of ovulation, including changes in body temperature, the position and texture of the cervix, and the consistency of the vaginal mucous.

You will need to maintain a daily record of these indicators for a couple of cycles. Over time, you will become familiar with the states of your body, and the chart will be more of a support and a reminder to check daily.

Sperm can live up to five days inside your body, so you need to stay away from sperm for around eight days of each cycle – five days before ovulation, and three days after.

Make sure you study a good reference to get all the details you need to do this properly – there is a lot at stake! I recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.

Just about a week ago the first body temperature app Natural Cycles has been certified as an official method of contraception, read their studies here.

For the Lazy One’s: Period Tracker Apps (Not Super Safe Thou)

There are many period tracker apps on the market that help women to keep their menstrual cycle in check (note: in check, not in control).

I use a combination of Flow (because it includes the 4 menstrual phases of Miranda Grey) and Clue because their calculation is more precise on the day for me and their design is very classy. I use those apps to follow my rhythm, and it works well for me and my partner (because he actually can control his ejaculation). So a combination of knowing the days more or less and him being able not to spray accidentally into my vagina works for us well. But now that it’s not the most reliable method that I would recommend, again there can be so many factors that mess up your calculation.

What about Natural Contraception for Men?

Birth control is a common concern for women and men. While women have many options when choosing a birth control method, men have fewer options.

Men have five birth control options:

  1. Abstinence/or sexual continence: Again this is only safe if your man has not ejaculated or leaked any semen, for at least three days
  2. Condoms: The most classic, read more below.
  3. Outercourse: This means different things to different people. For some people, Outercourse is any sexual activity without vaginal intercourse. For others, it’s sexual activity with no penetration at all — oral, anal, or vaginal. It’s a bit limited but a way to protect. Note: Be aware that there is always a risk that sperm penetrates the vagina through fingering or via contact with pre-cum.
  4. Vasectomy: Sterilization for men that prevents pregnancy. It’s safe and effective and costs up to $1,000. Usually, guys that don’t want to have children go with this method because it’s meant to be permanent.
  5. Withdrawal: This is a little bit of a poker game especially if you know your guy is not a Tantric-Pro. So use at your own risk.

Guys can prevent pregnancy or make natural contraception even more babyproof by combining, for example, fertility awareness-based methods with any of the above options. Make sure you support your beloved in this process.

The Classic Style: Condoms

All right, condoms are not strictly “natural”. Unless you go with organic, vegan and the super-natural products. But it is worth considering if using condoms during your times of possible fertility will allow you to relax and stop stressing.

And condoms are obviously the safest way (out of all methods) when it comes to protecting yourself from STD. Be on the safe side, use a condom or take a test!

The most important thing about having a rich, juicy sex life is being able to fully let go and enjoy the present moment.

If you are worried about pregnancy or worrying that your man might accidentally ejaculate, you won’t be letting go and experiencing full orgasmic bliss.

There is nothing wrong with using condoms at these times, just to make sure you get the orgasmic bliss you deserve!
